Tuning Into the Planet

Nearly two decades ago, I walked deep into Mammoth Cave alongside the Dalai Lama and a cohort of monks and musicians. As we descended into the depths of the Earth, we listened—and then we allowed the planet to speak through us and our instruments. We tuned ourselves into the Earth, and in doing so, found ourselves increasingly connected to one another.

This sense of mutual connection came as a surprise to some of us. (Though not, perhaps, to the Dalai Lama and the other contemplative masters in our midst.) But it also makes sense at the deepest level; after all, the Earth is sending us an urgent message.
