Maestro Steven Mercurio
EARTH’S CALL Music Director & conductor Maestro Steven Mercurio leads the grand ensemble of the Earth Symphony Orchestra, Soweto Gospel Choir, Symphonic Choir, Children’s Choir, Nobel Peace Laureates, Academy Award recipients, Grammy Award recipients, Indigenous Voices, Messengers and Musicians of Conscience, and The Alan Parsons Band nested within the Earth Symphony Orchestra.
Maestro Mercurio is former Conductor of the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremonies Concert. At the Personal Invitation of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin – Maestro Mercurio conducted “The Concert for the Pope” for His Holiness, Pope Francis, upon the Holy Father’s visit to the United States. Maestro Mercurio conducted Aretha Franklin and the Philadelphia Orchestra in the historic concert for over 300,000 people in attendance, live-streamed to the global audience.
Maestro Mercurio is Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, having served as Music Director and Conductor of the world-renowned Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds, and as Principal Conductor of the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Mercurio has conducted in the great performance halls and venues of the world, including the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden, e Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Opera House, and the Henry Crown Hall in Jerusalem.
Maestro Mercurio conducted Sting’s “Symphonicity Tour”; “The Three Tenors” worldwide television special live from the Vienna Opera House; PBS’ “Statue of Liberty Concert”; PBS’ “Live from Lincoln Center 20th Anniversary Richard Tucker Gala”; the Opening Concert for the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000; the RAI (Italian) television broadcast of “Christmas from Assisi”; and the “100th Anniversary Concert of Gian Carlo Menotti” in Spoleto, Italy.
A prolific composer, orchestrator, and arranger, Mercurio’s compositions have received world-premiere performances by the New York Philharmonic, and at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremonies Concert in Oslo.
